Computing

At Kenton Bar Primary School we believe that a high-quality computing curriculum is essential if we are to equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing ensures that pupils become digitally literate at a level suitable for the future workplace and active participants in a digital world.

Intent

In our Early Years Foundation Stage, we aim to:
  • Ensure children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools.
  • Encourage children to select and use technology for particular purposes

In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, children study the National Curriculum for Computing and we aim to:

  • apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  • encourage children to analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems

  • give children the opportunity to evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems

  • prepare children to be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
